JAKARTA - FedEx will immediately take photos of packages at your doorstep to provide proof that their shipment was legal and does not require the recipient's signature.

“This is something e-commerce merchants and customers have been asking for, and we are proud to be the first to announce this service will be available to residential customers,” said Brie Carere, FedEx chief customer officer, said in a press release announcing today's program, such as quoted by The Verge.

This free service will be available to FedEx Express and FedEx Ground shipping customers with and without logging into FedEx Delivery Manager, cited from The Verge.

This new program will obviously be a good source of protection for FedEx, and will also help business owners whose customers report that their packages haven't been delivered. It will also be a good resource for customers to know if the package ever made it to their door or not, especially if the item was lost.

Amazon launched a similar program called Photo on Delivery in 2018. It was meant to provide proof of delivery and help customers find their packages, but it was only available in certain areas.

According to Amazon, the program allows images to be used by Amazon to verify the location of packages, perform quality control, and investigate any issues raised by customers. Customers who do not wish to have their package photo taken can opt-out of the program.

Customers without a FedEx account will be able to view their images via the FedEx tracking tool by entering their tracking number. Those with accounts can view them through the FedEx Delivery Manager.

FedEx said the service will first be available to FedEx Delivery Manager users in "select markets" before rolling out to customers in the US and Canada in time for holiday delivery.
