JAKARTA - Apple announced an update that enhances its smartwatch capabilities to remind users to stay connected, healthy, and active.

Apple updated the workout app on WatchOS 9 with the introduction of Custom Workouts, which let you create structured workouts that include work and rest intervals.

"New alerts, including speed, strength, heart rate, and cadence, can be added to guide users during exercise," Apple said in a release Monday, June 6.

WatchOS 9 brings more data and features to help track how efficiently users run. New running form metrics will include Step Length, Ground Contact Time, and Vertical Oscillation, which help you track how efficiently you're running.

Apart from that, Apple also announced swimming improvements. You can track their efficiency with their SWOLF score, which is the number of strokes combined with the time, in seconds, it takes to swim one pool length.

Sleep tracking in WatchOS 9 provides even more insight with sleep stage recognition. Using signals from the accelerometer and heart rate sensor, Apple Watch can detect when the user is in REM, Core, or Deep sleep.

Next up is the new Medicine Experience feature on Apple Watch and iPhone. This feature is intended to help you manage and track medications, vitamins, and supplements.

This feature also allows you to create medication lists, set schedules and reminders, and view information about their medications in the Health app.
