JAKARTA – At the ETH Shanghai Web 3.0 Developer Summit, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin discussed the shift from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) algorithms. The transition is eagerly awaited by the Ethereum community.

The Merge will be live on the Ethereum Ropsten testnet for 18 days starting on June 8, 2022. During ETH Shanghai, Buterin explained that the transition will be a major test for the entire Ethereum ecosystem.

"It's going to be a big test, bigger than all the tests we've done before," Buterin said. “Taking an existing large test network with multiple applications with Proof-of-Work, moving to Proof-of-Stake.”

Ethereum roadmap which includes The Merge, The Surge, The Verge, The Purge, and The Splurge. Furthermore, Buterin confirmed that The Merge could be implemented in August.

“If there are no problems then the merger will occur in August,” said the Ethereum co-founder.

“But of course, there is always the risk of trouble. There is also a risk of procrastination. So September is possible and October is also possible," said Buterin.

The Merge is the first of Ethereum's major upgrades after the London upgrade, which implements the ETH burning mechanism. After The Merge, Ethereum will implement The Surge, The Verge, The Purge, and finally The Splurge, reported by Bitcoin.com News.
