JAKARTA - Google brought a pretty useful change for Android users, now Google Photos users can delete their photos inside the app directly.

While not quite an important update, it's a welcome change, considering how long it took to add those capabilities.

This feature has actually been available on the web for years but is missing from the mobile app and it's not clear why.

Previously, Google Photos users could only get rid of unwanted photos when using the browser version, but luckily Google has quietly added the feature to the Android app.

However, this feature is only available for private albums. In a shared album, users still need to first remove the photo from the album, find it in the library, and then proceed to delete it from there.

That limitation doesn't exist on the web, where users can directly move photos to trash from shared albums.

Google Photos has been praised for being generally easy to access for important services like backing up photos and videos which is often difficult to do on other platforms, so this persistent problem of deleting photos feels like a misstep.

The problem of the Google Photos app on Android has been a widely accepted part for years and Google itself knows about the problem.

Android Police pointed out that when Google Photos product lead David Lieb responded to a tweet about the issue in 2019, he said the team behind the app was working on a fix.

And oddly enough, users had to wait for almost three years then, the fix finally went live. This was cited from Digital Trends, Friday, May 20.
