JAKARTA - Former United States (US) President Donald Trump seems to have succeeded in making his social media, Truth Social, become much in demand in his own country of birth.

According to the latest data from Sensor Tower, an agency that often conducts research on apps, Truth Social recently overtook Twitter to top the iPhone app in the US.

The report reveals Truth Social is currently the most downloaded app on iOS devices, while Twitter is in second place, and TikTok, which is quite popular in the US, should shift to seventh.

The presence of Truth Social is in the aftermath of Trump being banned from Twitter in January last year, following the attack on the US Capitol Building. Social media with the blue bird logo argued that Trump's tweets could trigger further incitement and violence against the incident.

Since then, Trump has promised to launch Truth Social to rival Twitter. Not long ago, billionaire and boss of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk bought Twitter.

As the new owner of Twitter, Musk has promised to make free speech a top priority, and hinted that Trump's account could be restored.

“Freedom of speech is the cornerstone of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is a digital city square where matters important to the future of humanity are debated. I hope my worst critique stays on Twitter, because that's what free speech means," Musk said after taking over Twitter.

However, Republicans have stated that Trump will start posting from his Truth Social account within the next seven days, where he hopes to use it as a live platform to reach out to his supporters.

“This is a platform for my voice. Truth is a platform for my voice and for my supporters. But I want everyone to come to Truth, conservative, liberal, whatever," Trump told Fox News.

"I don't use Twitter, I'll stick with Truth. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he's going to make improvements and he's a nice guy, but I'll stick with Truth. The bottom line is, no, I'm not going back to Twitter."

For your information, Truth Social attracted nearly 2 million visits in the week after it was announced in October 2021, but registration issues and long waiting lists made interest appear to be drying up in early 2022.
