JAKARTA - Telegram has released a new capability that brings some great additions to its app. One of them is to make any sound as their notification tone when receiving a message.

Users can use short audio files uploaded from mobile phones and save voice messages as notification tones from chats.

Telegram says it currently supports audio files and voice messages under 300KB and less than five seconds in length. Users can assign sounds to specific chats or entire chat groups.

How to use it is easy, users just open Settings in Telegram then select Notifications and click Sounds.

If the user does not have a sound as an option, the user can choose from a variety of built-in options, from bells to Merlin the cat, available from Telegram's Notification Sounds channel.

Apart from notification tones, Telegram also brings the ability to mute chats. It is currently known that users can disable notifications from certain chats with the option of a duration of one hour, eight hours, or two days.

However, in Telegram v8.7.0, users get access to a custom mute duration for any longer chat. Users can mute chats for three hours, one day, three days, one week, two weeks, three weeks, one month, two months, and three months.

To use the feature, tap the Notification option on the chat info page on Android or tap the Mute button on the chat info page on iOS.

Launching XDA Developers, Tuesday, April 19, Telegram has also made several OS-specific changes, including improved in-app translations on iOS that support multiple languages such as the Android version of Telegram.

Pavel Durov's messaging app also features a new animated food emoji: a bag of popcorn and a pile of pancakes.

There is also a new auto-delete menu in the profile. Users can use this menu to set an auto-delete timer for any chat, and its contents will be deleted after a predefined period of time.

This feature offers support for flexible timer settings, allowing users to automatically delete chats after an hour, a day, a week, a month, and more.
