JAKARTA - Apple has officially announced the date for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). This year, the event will run completely virtually from June 6 to June 10.

This time at WWDC, it is expected that Apple will announce the future of its operating systems including iOS 16, watchOS 9, and macOS 13.

"Apple today announced that it will host the annual WWDC online from June 6 to 10, free for all developers to attend," said Apple.

"Building on the success of virtual events over the past two years, WWDC22 will showcase the latest innovations across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS, while giving developers access to Apple engineers and technology to learn how to build innovative apps and interactive experiences."

Compared to the last two years of virtual WWDC events, this year Apple will offer more information sessions, more advanced learning labs, more digital waiting rooms to engage with attendees, and more local content to create WWDC 2022 a truly global event.

“At its core, WWDC has always been a forum for connecting and building community. In that spirit, WWDC22 invites developers from around the world to come together to explore how to bring their best ideas to life and push the envelope of what's possible," said Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise Marketing and Education.

"We love connecting with our developers, and we hope all of our participants feel excited about their experience."

In addition to the online conference, Apple will also host a special day for developers and students at Apple Park on June 6 to watch the main video and State of the Union, along with the online community.

The technology giant from Cupertino, USA, will also support students who love coding with the Swift Student Challenge. Swift Playgrounds is a revolutionary app for iPad and Mac that makes learning the Swift programming language interactive and fun.

For this year's challenge, students from around the world are invited to create a Swift Playgrounds app project on a topic of their choice. They can submit their work until April 25.

Later, Apple is expected to hold an online keynote on the first day of WWDC to unveil new software, including iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, and watchOS 9.

As Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman previously reported, it's also possible that we could see new hardware at WWDC, such as the Silicon-powered Apple Mac Pro which is claimed to be launching in May or June this year, and a new version of the MacBook Air.
