JAKARTA – Nissan Motor Co has postponed the release date of the Ariya B6 electric SUV again due to global semiconductor shortages and other supply chain disruptions. This was announced by the Japanese automaker in a statement on Monday evening, March 4.

The Ariya, Nissan's second EV model after the hatchback, the Leaf, will now go on sale on May 12 in Japan. Even though Nissan's original plan was to launch this car at the end of March.

Previously, Ariya itself was scheduled for a mid-2021 launch. However, it was postponed due to a shortage of chips related to COVID-19. "Sales in Europe will begin this summer and the United States in the fall," a Nissan source said.

This limited edition version of the SUV went on sale in Japan as planned in January. Nissan pioneered mass-market electric vehicles with the Leaf in 2010.

The shortage of global chip supplies has hit the car industry in many parts of the world. In addition to reducing the number of chip shortages produced, it also reduces the income of many of the world's major car manufacturers, including Nissan.

Therefore, many countries are now starting to invest funds to build their own chip factories and reduce their dependence on Taiwan, the world's largest chip and semiconductor producer.
