JAKARTA – In collaboration with Dicoding, Snapchat leveraged the power of AR (augmented reality) and launched Lensthon in Southeast Asia with a focus on skills and encouraging the contribution of young women in AR.

Participants will use Lens Studio, a free desktop app from Snap, to create and design their AR experiences. Snapchat will hold three lens studio workshops in Indonesia (Bahasa), Singapore (English), and Malaysia (Malay) and teach participants to make lenses with the theme "International Women's Day".

This workshop will be conducted by female creators from the Snapchat Lens Network, namely Danielle Grace for Indonesia and Singapore and Yong Nurain Sofia Binti Khairulhiddard for Malaysia.

All participants who submit valid lenses will have the opportunity to join Snap's Lens Studio Community and develop their passion in the AR industry.

"Our approach to AR is rooted in storytelling and creativity as a starting point to introduce this new technology to a wide audience. We have developed AR very well, not only for entertainment, but also for various uses such as education, commerce, and more," said Anubhav Nayyar, Director of Market Development SEA at Snap.

"We hope that the International Women's Day Lensthon can inspire and enhance the skills of women across the region to bring their creativity and passion to life," added Nayyar, in a release to VOI.

Snapchat has held several Lens Studio workshops across Southeast Asia to help students and teens create shared experiences and express their ideas in engaging ways. By 2021, more than 11,000 students will be trained through Lens Studio workshops to teach AR to students from schools and colleges across Southeast Asia.

Snap will also harness the power of AR by launching a series of special AR lenses #BreakTheBias and hyperlocal geofilters to celebrate International Women's Day 2022.
