JAKARTA - Netflix Inc, a video streaming service provider from California, USA, announced on Sunday 6 March, that it has suspended its services in Russia.

Earlier this week, Netflix also suspended all future projects and acquisitions in Russia because it assessed the impact of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, which could jeopardize their position.

"Given the circumstances on the ground, we have decided to suspend our services in Russia," a Netflix spokesperson said, as reported by Reuters.

Netflix previously said it had no plans to add channels managed by Russian state media to its service in the country, despite regulations requiring it to distribute state-backed channels.

This was done because of the many criticisms from international news curators because the media run by the Russian government spread a lot of propaganda news about the country's invasion of Ukraine.

Netflix chose to discontinue its service in Russia instead of having to deal with harsh criticism from the world community, if they continue to broadcast news content from Russia. This is a safe action for them.
