Visiting China, The Minister Of Industry Will Visit The BYD Electric Vehicle Factory

JAKARTA - During his visit to China, the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia (Menperin), Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, will visit the BYD and Huawei Bantian Base automotive industry plants.

His visit to the Bamboo Curtain Country was part of the China-ASEAN Forum event, where ASEAN countries ministers gathered in Shenzen, China, to strengthen industrial cooperation.

In an effort to accelerate the development of electric vehicles, Indonesia opens opportunities for cooperation with various countries to be at the forefront of the industry.

"This vision is in line with efforts to create a greener and more sustainable ASEAN through the active involvement of the private sector and coordinated cooperation in the region," Agus said in his official statement on Monday, July 3.

After that, the Minister of Industry is also scheduled to meet with the Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China, Jin Zhuanglong, to discuss increasing cooperation between Indonesia and China in the industrial sector.

"In a meeting with the Minister of Industry and Information Technology of the RRT, we will discuss the possibility of cooperation in the field of electric vehicle development (EV), renewable energy for green industries, industrial estates, and the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area agreement," Agus said.

The Minister of Industry's visit to the BYD automotive factory in China further strengthens the news that the leading automotive manufacturer from China will enter the Indonesian automotive industry.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia (Menko Marves), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, reported to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, regarding the interest of one of the leading electric vehicle manufacturers ready to invest in Indonesia.

Luhut said that the manufacturer plans to invest US$1.3 billion or around Rp. 19.5 trillion to market electric vehicles in Indonesia. Although the brand is not mentioned, it is likely that the company is BYD.

This information was further strengthened when BYD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enter the Indonesian market which was inaugurated by Luhut last May.

However, the agreement has not explained in detail the incoming steps and investment commitments to be made.

BYD Auto is one of the vehicle companies that is on the rise in global sales of electric vehicles. In addition to presenting electric vehicles with advanced technology, they also sell products at affordable prices.

This is evident by their increased sales in recent years. In 2022, BYD recorded global sales of 1.85 million units, a sharp jump from 593,745 units in 2021.
