JAKARTA - Daimler AG's Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp (MFTBC) and a Toyota subsidiary Hino Motors Ltd have signed a non-binding agreement to merge their truck unit businesses in Japan.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU), the businesses of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp and Hino Motors Ltd will be merged under a holding company, Toyota said in a release released Tuesday, May 30.
The new company's shares are expected to be listed on the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Daimler Truck and Toyota will invest in the company equally and work together on the development of hydrogen and other technologies in areas such as connectivity and autonomous driving.
The companies hope to sign a definitive agreement in the first quarter of 2024 and close the transaction at the end of next year.
