JAKARTA - Doctor Terawan Putranto has been dismissed from membership of IDI (Indonesian Doctors Association). This was in the aftermath of a letter from the Honorary Council of Medical Ethics of the Indonesian Doctors Association (MKEK IDI) last February 8 which stated that Terawan had committed several serious ethical violations. As published on VOI, there are at least five mistakes that Terawan made while carrying out his duties as a doctor.

First, Terawan has not submitted evidence of having carried out ethical sanctions according to the MKEK Decree dated February 12, 2018, to date.

Second, Terawan carried out promotions to the wider community about the Nusantara vaccine before the vaccine research was completed.

Third, Terawan acted as Chair of the Association of Indonesian Clinical Radiology Specialists (PDSRKI), a body formed without going through the procedures according to IDI's management and organization (Ortala) with the ratification process at the IDI Congress.

Fourth, Terawan issued a Circular (SE) on December 11, 2021, which contained instructions "to all branch heads and PDSKRI members throughout Indonesia not to respond to or attend" the PB IDI event.

Fifth, Terawan submitted an application for membership transfer from IDI Central Jakarta Branch to IDI West Jakarta Branch, one of the conditions of which was to fill out a membership transfer form containing a statement about undergoing organizational sanctions and/or being subject to IDI sanctions.

This is not the first time Terawan's doctor has been dismissed from IDI membership. Compiled from various sources, in 2018 Terawan was noted to have been temporarily dismissed from IDI for 12 months from February 26, 2018, to February 25, 2019, due to serious ethical violations.

The serious ethical violation in question is related to the treatment of chronic ischemic stroke through the Diagnostic Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) conducted by Terawan since July 2014. Even though this method has not yet obtained scientific medical evidence. As a diagnostic procedure, the cost of the procedure is also called fantastic. Doctor Terawan did the procedure not in the research phase, but in the implementation phase in the community. This violates medical and pharmaceutical ethics, because the medical action has not been published scientifically.

DSA technique or Digital Subtraction Angiography itself is usually used in the diagnosis of stroke. On the other hand, Dr. Terawan is said to have modified DSA as part of stroke patient therapy, which is widely known as brainwashing.

If he was fired by the Medical Code of Ethics Council (MKEK) from the IDI board, the consequence would be that Terawan would no longer be able to apply for a practice permit.

The reaction to Terawan's dismissal from IDI's membership sparked controversy. Many have questioned it. Starting from the community, social media activists, members of the DPR to members of the Watimpres. Everyone regretted the steps taken by IDI. Everyone felt that Terawan was an accomplished doctor and helped the community a lot.

Commission IX of the DPR even summoned IDI to ask for an explanation. Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly opened a discourse so that the doctor's license to practice was taken care of by the government. He also suggested that there should be a meeting point between IDI and Terawan. It must be admitted, many that claim to have been helped by the brainwashing method carried out by the former Minister of Health.

From the information compiled from various sources, actually, Terawan is not a cardiologist or stroke specialist. He is a radiology specialist. But his doctoral studies at Hasanudin University were related to brainwashing. The method, which is commonly called brain flushing, is in his dissertation entitled "Effects of Intra-arterial Heparin Flushing on Regional Cerebral Blood Flow, Motor Evoked Potentials, and Motor Function in Patients with Chronic Ischemic Stroke". This method of dealing with stroke problems is then called 'brainwashing' therapy, and the application of the DSA (Digital Subtraction Angiogram) program.

Brilliant Career

As a doctor and in the military, Terawan is pretty good. Before becoming Minister of Health, he was the Head of the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Subroto. He was also a team doctor for the presidency in 2009. Furthermore, Terawan has also been the Chair of the Indonesian Radiology Specialist Doctors Association and the Chair of the World International Committee of Military Medicine. Terawan Agus Putranto also holds the title of Honorary Professor (Professional Professor) of Defense Science in Military Medicine, Faculty of Military Medicine, Defense University (IDU). He was also the Chair of the ASEAN Association of Radiology. Terawan retired from the military with the last rank of Lieutenant General.

With such a track record, it is not surprising that many are pressing for an immediate solution. Whether it's related to DSA or brainwashing methods or the archipelago's vaccines. All consider Terawan an asset. Also because many feel helped. Even for the domestic vaccine, several public figures have received it. So we really need to find a good solution. Not for Terawan but also for the wider community.
