JAKARTA - As Chairman of the Federation of Indonesian Musician Unions (FEDMI), Yovie Widianto revealed that his party is fighting for the minimum wage for musicians.

He voiced the problem considering that many musicians who are members of the FESMI are musicians who mostly play in cafes and weddings.

"The classic problem that we must also fight for is that we have the minimum standard of income for artists and art workers," said Yovie Widianto when met at Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 6.

Yovie mentioned a case where musicians did not know about the fees they received when performing. They only hope for gifts from the audience present.

"So, nothing is empty just from saweran. It's a pity that no one came. If no one gives it, how? They have worked three to four hours but got nothing," said Yovie.

"At least entrepreneurs who have cafes, restaurants and so on also have certainty how much they have to pay," he continued.

Yovie himself feels paid for art workers, especially musicians, depending on many aspects. However, he hopes for a minimum wage for welfare and clarity of fate for musicians.

"In art, there is a level of professionalism, level of flying hours, level of popularity. It affects these values. But at least there is a minimum value that can protect art workers," said Yovie Widianto.
