A. Nayaka Different Cultural Reflection In Culture Shock Album

JAKARTA - Rapper A. Nayaka launched his fourth album titled Culture Shock. Released on Friday, November 3, this album is a reflection of the musician through the Indonesian music industry.

Sweet Time was championed as the main single after he released Marila in July. This album contains 13 songs that Ariel Nayaka has worked on the most.

Not only that, he also collaborated with Alyph, Basboi, and Ben Utomo to collaborate on this album. This album was done in 2019 where he began to look for appropriate themes and his personal life became the beginning of his latest work.

The creation of a Culture Shock actually started in 2019 and it all fully speaks English, hip-hop, album trap. It feels like I'm in a comfort zone, but I'm relieved it wasn't released," said A. Nayaka.

"Going to 2021, during the pandemic, it was when I started to feel comfortable writing in Indonesian and I released songs like 'Other People' or Time Arrivals. It made me more comfortable turning the concept of Culture Shock into a bilingual album," he said.

Even though he was born in Indonesia, a great musician in Houston admitted that he experienced a shock culture when he returned to Indonesia.

I want this album to represent teenagers in Indonesia who are big abroad or vice versa. According to my personal experience, it is not easy to adapt it. Sometimes it is not easy to become a foreigner in your own country," he said.

The song Sweet Time, which is the main single, is considered A. Nayaka is very suitable to represent this album, in contrast to Marila's bright feel. This difference is also seen in the artwork of this album where this photo shows a group of children but only one is not crossed out.

This album cover also represents shock culture. It's a photo of my 10th birthday in the United States, and there's an Asian kid with hispanic or African friends. I had fun making this album, and hopefully others will feel the same way," he said again.
