During his 50 years of career, Sakamoto won many awards [including Oscar, Grammys, Bafta, and two Golden Globes] for his work as a film composer, scoring songs like The Last Emperor, The Sheltering Sky, Little Buddha, and The Revenant.
In addition to scoring for the film Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence, Sakamoto also starred in the war film with David Bowie.
Sakamoto is also the pioneering member of the electronics band Yellow Magic Orchestra.
