Los Angeles Set September 17 As Squid Game Day

JAKARTA - Los Angeles has designated September 17 as Squid Game Day. Today is related to the achievements received by the South Korean series throughout the year.

Launching NME, Korean-America Congress John Lee announced on Wednesday, September 7 that the city council approved the Squid Game Day. Later, they will commemorate the series every September 17th.

September 17 was chosen because Squid Game was released on that date on Netflix in 2021.

Maybe this is the first time for the United States to set a series as a celebration. Not only Squid Game is the most watched series, but this series has become a new breakthrough for programs in Asia.

The Squid Game series is considered to break boundaries that foreign language series cannot get attention due to language constraints. However, thanks to the development of Korean content globally, Squid Game also plays a role in these developments.

"The Squid Game marks another victory in risking representatives of the AAPI community (Asia Amerika and the Pacific Islands) in films and entertainment," he continued.

"This series also paved the way for other AAPI communities to tell their stories," he said.

The Korea Times said the celebration would be held at the LA City Hall on Friday, September 9. Apart from being attended by mayor Eric Garcetti, the event was also attended by director Hwang Dong Hyuk and CEO of the Siren Pictures production house Kim Ji Yeon.

Actor Lee Jung Jae as the main character in the Squid Game series is also confirmed to be present at this celebration.

Squid Game is a Netflix series that has reached its peak throughout 2021 until now. The series also received nominations and awards in several international events.

This success made Hwang Dong Hyuk and Netflix plan to continue the story of Squid Game. They also hold live shows that have a concept like the series.
