JAKARTA - Ayyamul Bidh fasting is a sunnah fast that is done for three days in the middle of the month according to the Hijri calendar. That is, every 13th, 14th, and 15th of the Hijri month, except for Tasyrik day which is on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. So according to the Christian calendar, this sunnah fast will fall on August 11, 12, and 13.

According to a hadith narrated by Imam An Nasai, it is explained that the Prophet Muhammad SAW always observes the fast of Ayyamul Bidh.

"The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to fast at Ayyamul Bidh when he was not traveling or when he was traveling." (HR. Imam An Nasai number 2347).

The importance of fasting Ayyamul Bidh is also narrated in several hadiths. Two of them are hadiths narrated by Imam Bukhari from Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al 'Ash and Ibnu Milhan Al Qoisiy.

"Fasting three days in every month is like fasting all year round." (HR. Imam Bukhari).

"The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to order us to fast on Ayyamul Bidh, namely the 13th, 14th, and 15th (of the Hijri month)." And he said, "Ayyamul Bidh fasting is like fasting for a year." (HR. Abu Daud no. 2449 and An Nasai no. 2434).

The procedure for Ayyamul Bidh fasting is the same as obligatory fasting and other sunnah fasting. Fasting starts at dawn until sunset. For women who are married, if they want to fast Ayyamul Bidh, they should first ask their husband's permission as stated in the hadith of Abu Hurairah.

"It is not halal for a woman to fast while her husband is present (not to travel) except with her husband's permission."

If you want to carry out this fast, here are the intentions of the Ayyamul Bidh fast.
