JAKARTA - Actress Jeon Jong Seo admits that she will not forget the opening scene in the series Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area. The scene shows him dancing to the song of the K-pop boy band BTS.

The series is a remake of the Korean version and is set on the Korean Peninsula in 2026, when the two Koreas formed a joint economic area (JEA) as the first step towards unification.

The first episode of Money Heist: Korea opens with the character Tokyo (played by Jeon Jong-seo) imitating BTS's dance to DNA songs on his headphones while walking down the stairs in Pyongyang.

“I practiced a lot. I danced much longer and longer than the scenes shown in the series. I felt a little embarrassed that the scene was filmed, but I don't think I'll ever forget this scene," Jeon said in a media interview, quoted from Yonhap on Friday.

Jeon said that the Tokyo character is just an ordinary teenage girl from North Korea who longs for South Korea's prosperity. But instead he is trapped in the hands of loan sharks in Seoul in pursuit of the "Korean dream".

“He was frustrated and hurt. Everything in the South was beyond his expectations. A man named Professor came to him and reached out to help when he was on the verge of death," he said.

Tokyo takes part in a grand plot masterminded by the Professor (Yoo Ji-tae) to take over the money-making agency at JEA. Jeon said Tokyo is one of the most changed characters in the Korean version when compared to Tokyo, played by Ursula Corbero in the Spanish version.

"In the original version, Tokyo is a suggestive, sexy, and stubborn troublemaker. Very interesting. But the Korean version of Tokyo is very loyal to the Professor, reasonable, and tries to look at the situation with calm and level-headed eyes," explained Jeon.

The 27-year-old actress admitted that she was surprised by the big change in Tokyo's character when she read the screenplay for "Money Heist: Korea".

"It's not easy for me to describe the newly created character. But this is not a series that is only led by Tokyo. So I'm more focused on playing roles with all the actors," he was quoted as saying by ANTARA.

The series, which was released last Friday, June 24, debuted at number one on the weekly viewership chart for the non-English TV show category. The series also took second place on the daily global chart for TV programming on Netflix, according to streaming analytics company FlixPatrol on Wednesday, June 29.

Jeon thanks global viewers for the popularity of his first TV series. He admits to trying to remain unaffected by reviews or viewership ratings.

"I'm not bothered by that kind of response. I just want to star in a movie or TV show that people like," she said.
