Will Bring 3 New Imported KRL, KAI Reluctant To Give Leaks

PT KAI Commuter (KCI) will bring in three new trainsets from abroad in 2024.

The new train will operate in 2024 and 2025.

VP Corporate Secretary of the Commuter Train, Anne Purba, said that her party was in the process of procuring 3 trainsets with 12 train carriages, but she was still reluctant to give a leak regarding the country of origin of the new train.

"We are currently in the process. Where is the technology after the auction process is announced," Anne told the media crew, Monday, November 6.

He also emphasized that the procurement of this new train is still in process so that there is no decision on which country will become the source of the new train

"I don't want to say brands yet, I don't want to mention the country. If so, we will inform you," said Anne briefly.

Regarding the funding for the new train, Anne said that her party had submitted funds worth Rp800 billion to the parent company, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and applied for loans to private banks amounting to Rp3.6 trillion, while the rest came from State Capital Participation (PMN) and Public Service Obligation (PSO) which are being worked on.

"From KAI, it was almost Rp. 800 billion, then the Rp. 3.6 trillion was yesterday when what we just borrowed from the bank, the rest that we are fighting for, both from PMN and from PSO, is rolling on," explained Anne.

Previously, it was reported that PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI plans to import three new series of electric train sets (KRL) from Japan. The required funds are worth IDR 676.8 billion.

This was conveyed by the Director of Startgis Planning and Business Development of PT KAI (Persero) John Roberto in a meeting with Commission VI of the DPR, Tuesday, September 19.

"For the purchase of the Japanese train, the trainset is Rp676.8 billion," said John.

John said the new Japanese trainset is to meet the needs of the train in 2024. Given that 98 percent of the KRL facilities are ready to be owned by KCI, it is more than 30 years old.

"And some types of our KRL are spare parts that are absolute, they are no longer produced, so from this meeting, maintenance and safety position we really need new procurements," he said.
