JAKARTA - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) plans to increase mining results in 2024. President Director of PTFI, Tony Wenas said that currently the PTFI mining process is experiencing an increase. He said that the target has reached a capacity of almost 100 percent of what is planned for this year, which is around 200 thousand tons of ore per day.

"Next year, PTFI plans to increase its production capacity to 220 thousand tons of ore per day, which is expected to produce 1.7 billion pounds of copper and 1.9 million ounces of gold," Tony said, quoted on Friday, October 27.

Tony also explained how PTFI's efforts to downstream by building copper smelters in Gresik. Through a smelter, PTFI processes copper concentrate into a more pure product, such as copper cathode and gold bullion.

"Currently, PTFI is also building a copper smelter in Gresik, which is the largest single line smelter in the world. Currently, the development of the smelter project development has reached 84 percent of progress according to plan and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2024," Tony continued.

Tony conveyed PTFI's commitment to complete the construction of this smelter project.

"We will solve it because this smelter is considered very important for Indonesia, and this supports Pak Jokowi's vision of developing an electric vehicle ecosystem with an important role of copper in it," he said.

Furthermore, Tony stated that PTFI is also committed to reducing carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2023.

"Right now we have reached around 22-23 percent of the target. We are optimistic that we can achieve that target," he said.
