KKP Hands Over Aid To Waste Banks In Palu, Central Sulawesi, Supports Clean Coastal Village Program

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) handed over facilities and infrastructure assistance for the Clean Coastal Village program to the Navoe Waste Bank, Taipa Village, Palu, Central Sulawesi.

"The selection of Taipa Village will be the location of the Clean Coastal Village Program in 2023 considering that its area is a coastal village with a large potential for marine debris. Meanwhile, the Navoe Waste Bank was chosen because of its activeness as an independent, caring and innovative waste bank," said Director of Coastal Empowerment and Small Islands Muhammad Yusuf in his statement in Jakarta, quoted Tuesday, October 17.

The assistance handed over by the KKP includes a semi-permanent building unit for temporary waste shelters (TPS), plastic press waste machines, plastic ring cutting machines, as well as trash bags and information boards.

Yusuf hopes that the local government (Pemda) can continue to foster groups in entrepreneurship, raise awareness of the surrounding community in maintaining the cleanliness of the surrounding environment from waste, so that a good integrated waste management system is built, from upstream to downstream through the circular economy concept.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Pollution Management Division of the Palu City Environment Agency, Cystal Malik, welcomed the initiation of the KKP which established Taipa Village as the 2023 Clean Coastal Village with the hope of responding to the challenges of waste management on the coast of Palu City as well as being able to drive a circular economy based on empowering community groups.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Navoe Waste Bank Group, Dirsan Masra, in addition to giving appreciation, also asked the government to continue to provide assistance to improve the ability of members to become a business unit that can prosper its members.

The waste management program is in line with the commitment of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in the declaration of the National Month of Marine Love Movement as a momentum for all parties to begin together to keep the marine ecosystem clean and blue free from plastic waste.
