Minister Basuki: All People Need To Be Involved In Changing Cities In Indonesia To Be Better

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that all elements of society need to be involved in taking concrete actions to change cities in Indonesia for the better.

This was revealed by Minister Basuki in the fun walk and clean parade commemorating World Habitat Day (HHD) and World City Day (HKD) 2023.

"Hopefully this day with Habitat Day and World City Day 2023 can inspire us to build a better city in the future. Today, we are taking a leisurely walk while cleaning up to invite people to take real action to make the city better," Basuki told reporters, Monday, October 16.

Basuki said all the ideals set out in the exhibition titled One Good Day 2045 must start at the moment with efforts that can be started by everyone, such as planting trees that can definitely change the city for the better.

"We have to be aware, we have to change, 2045 is not a long time, if it doesn't start now when will it be. It must be started now by young people who determine what the future will be," he said.

To make a better city, he said, a touch of aesthetic elements is also needed in order to provide a better feel.

"Therefore, at this time we are building bridges and other buildings involving architects so that they are not only concrete, but there is an aesthetic element," he said.

For your information, referring to the New Urban Agenda (NUA) based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), settlement and urban development in a regional context can use a human-based, gender-responsive, and age approach.

In addition, every stakeholder also has an interest in implementing NUA, so there needs to be collaboration, and not only the government does it, but it is done together.

The implementation of NUA within the scope of the Ministry of PUPR itself includes the fulfillment of various basic needs, such as clean water, sanitation, and proper housing.
