JAKARTA - PT Wijaya Karya Beton Tbk or WIKA Beton (WTON) has started the process of installing Roof Solar Power Plants (PLTS) on two factories operating using electrical energy from PLTS. The location is in Bogor and Majalengka, West Java, as an effort to reduce national carbon emissions.

This subsidiary of PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) cooperates with PT Agra Surya Energy as a service provider to execute plans for the use of renewable energy from the sun in the precast concrete production process, as received in Jakarta, Thursday.

WIKA Beton's Corporate Secretary, Dedi Indra, said the solar panels will be installed on the roof of the main production line, and used for main factory activities with a total generated electric power of 682 kilo watts (kWP).

In terms of the environment, he said that the operation of PLTS in the two factories was able to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to 532,812 kilograms (kg) per year.

"In addition, the electricity consumption from PLN can also be saved up to 15 percent," said Dedi quoting Antara.

In the future, he continued, the company will gradually increase the number of factories using PLTS, which is part of the decarbonization program as a alignment of the green industry program from the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).

Meanwhile, the company's steps include reducing CO2 emissions from energy sources, replacing systems that depend on fossil fuels with low-carbon resources such as renewable energy, including PLTS.

"The company has implemented various programs such as using solar cells for light power throughout the factory area and the stockyard area since 2022," said Dedi.

Dedi said the company consistently utilizes production wastewater processing, and uses fly ash waste as a mixture of concrete to reduce cement use.

"The company always applies the principle of sustainability in every line of business operations," said Dedi.

For information, WIKA Beton posted a net profit of IDR 13.59 billion in the first semester of 2023, or a decrease of 77 percent year on year (yoy) compared to the previous IDR 60.72 billion in the same period in 2022.

The decline in profit follows a decrease in operating income by 2.16 percent (yoy) to Rp1.81 trillion, compared to the previous Rp1.85 trillion in the same period in 2022.
