JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Syarief Hasan asked the government to prioritize a persuasive and dialogical approach in solving investment and development problems for national strategic projects (PSN).

"Investment is certainly very important in supporting growth. However, if the investment only leaves wounds for the people, then it is clear that the investment implementation must be evaluated," Syarief said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, September 16.

He assessed that the chaos on Pulau Rempang, Batam, in relation to the construction of Rempang Eco City, would only leave a bad precedent in increasing investment.

According to him, investment cannot be carried out by increasing people's social, cultural and economic rights, but must be humane.

"The government must socialize every development, but at the same time people's rights must also be guaranteed. The government must solve this investment issue (on the island of Rempang) appropriately and dialogically," he said.

According to him, the forms of forced investment will actually cause antipathy from the people and it is feared that it will trigger questions, what are the investments intended for and for whom.

He considered that if you measure the success of investment only from the realization of physical development, then there is clearly a real policy mistake, because the people are goals, not development tools.

"The development of Rempang Eco City is important, but what is more important is to ensure that this development does not sacrifice the people," he said.

It is known, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the National Police strengthened socialization to the public as a top priority in resolving problems related to land clearing on Pulau Rempang, Riau Islands.

"The main priority that we are doing is strengthening socialization to people who will be relocated because the land currently available is land owned by the Batam BP authority, so inevitably it is needed to be handed over," said Sigit in Jakarta, Thursday, September 14.

On the other hand, said Sigit, the government, in this case the Batam Free Trade Area and Free Port Entrepreneurs Agency or (BP) Batam, is also thinking about relocation plans, including issues of people's livelihoods, which will be found in locations where people can continue their activities in order to fulfill their livelihoods.

"Whether it's fishermen or fishermen who sell vegetables at that time, there must also be a market and so on, everything is in process," said Sigit.

He said the impact arose due to a misunderstanding, but an opportunity was being explored between the parties to both find a way out.
