Minister Bahlil Will Visit Pulau Rempang This Weekend

JAKARTA - Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia admitted that he had the task of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to resolve the conflict that occurred on Pulau Rempang, Batam, Riau Islands.

Therefore, Bahlil admitted that he would immediately visit Pulau Rempang to resolve the existing conflict.

For your information, the situation on the island of Rempang is volatile along with the rejection of residents who are threatened with being evicted due to the construction of Rempang Eco City.

"God willing, this week. I can't mention the day because I have to adjust the schedule for activities that are already in me. But the President ordered as soon as possible and I will schedule it at the end of this week," he said after a working meeting with Commission VI DRP, Wednesday, September 13.

As previously reported, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) assigned Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to provide a direct explanation to residents of Rempang regarding the implementation of investment projects on the island.

Initially, Jokowi said that poor communication was the cause of chaos related to the issue of land clearing on Pulau Rempang, Batam, Riau Islands (Kepri).

According to Jokowi, the conflict between security forces and Rempang residents should not have occurred if local residents were spoken to and given a solution to the plan to develop the Rempang Eco City project by the Batam Entrepreneurship Agency (BP).

"Because there is actually an opportunity that residents will be given 500 meters of land plus 45-type buildings, but this is not communicated properly. Finally, it becomes a problem," Jokowi said when met on the sidelines of his visit to Kranggot Market, Cilegon, Banten, Tuesday, September 12.
