Discuss Resilience To Energy Transition, SKK Migas Gathers Upstream Oil And Gas Stakeholders In Bali

JAKARTA - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) again held The International Convention on Indonesian Upstream Oil and Gas (ICIOG) 4th in Bali on September 20-22.

Chairman of the ICIOG 2023 Organizing Committee, Mohammad Kemal revealed, there are four concepts raised in ICIOG 2023, namely Energy Security, Attracting Investment, Dynamic Market, and Energy Transition.

Through ICIOG 2023, stakeholders and business actors in the upstream oil and gas industry are expected to optimize opportunities for trends that are developing at the global level.

"The condition of the world economy, the trilema of energy, the trend of investment, and the role of gas as transitional energy can be a momentum for Indonesia's upstream oil and gas industry to increase production, as well as support national economic growth," Kemal said at a road to ICIOG 2023 press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, September 13.

According to Kemal, ICIOG 2023 targets the presence of 1,500 participants, both from within the country and abroad.

This event will be attended by participants from state/government institutions, experts, financial institutions, service providers, investors, and Cooperation Contractors (KKKS).

A number of important names will be present as keynote speakers, including Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia, and Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar.

In addition to the convention and exhibition, on the sidelines of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will also be signed between SKK Migas and several companies as well as the signing of a contract between SKK Migas and KKKS.

He added that carrying the theme "Advancing Energy Security through Sustainable Oil and Gas Exploration and Development", the implementation of the 2023 ICIOG does not only highlight issues related to upstream oil and gas business activities.

This international standard convention is also trying to find solutions related to the implementation of low-carbon operations so that the upstream oil and gas industry can contribute to achieving the Net Zero Emission target in Indonesia.

This solution is expected to be in line with efforts to increase national oil and gas production in order to achieve the production target of 1 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day (BSCFD).

In addition, opportunities related to the implementation of Carbon Capture Storage/Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCS/CCUS) in Indonesia are also being explored.

"The target of achieving production in 2030 is not easy and requires unusual methods, and continues to encourage synergy, collaboration and support from stakeholders, therefore SKK Migas organizes ICIOG events every year to get support and input related to the current conditions in the global, local, and other things that affect upstream oil and gas," concluded Kemal.
