JAKARTA - The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), submitted a progress report on preparations for the 10th World Water Forum in 2024 at the 84th Board of Governors (BoG) Meeting of the World Water Council which took place in Beijing, China, on 8-9 September 2023.

Expert Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Technology, Industry and the Environment, Endra S. Atmawidjaja, representing the National Organizing Committee (NOC), said that the Indonesian Government together with the World Water Council had carried out various thorough preparatory steps ahead of the remaining 10th World Water Forum 8 another month.

"We can ensure that the National Committee (NOC) under the leadership of President Joko Widodo will work with relevant global and local partners to achieve good results and impacts in overcoming various water issues in the world. President Joko Widodo has brought a message about water to the world and for heads of state at the G20 meeting in Bali and the Kick-off of the 10th World Water Forum in Jakarta," said Endra in his written statement, on Monday, September 11.

As a milestone in preparation for the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in 2024, the Indonesian Government has held the first Kick-off Meeting or Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) which was successfully held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on 15-16 February 2023. There more than 1,400 participants representing approximately 58 countries attended this event.

In the thematic process, the World Water Council and the National Committee have received more than 400 interested parties to become Topic Coordinators.

Meanwhile, for the regional process, there are 4 regions where the discussion process is ongoing in preparing work plans, results and road maps.

As for the political process, a cooperation agreement has been signed with UNESCO for the Ministerial level process and the United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) for the Local Authorities level process.

Then, most recently at the 3rd International Conference on Water and Climate on July 6-7 in Morocco, an agreement was signed between the National Committee and the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) for a political process at the river basin authorities level.

Furthermore, the Indonesian Government will also hold a second Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) in Bali on 12-13 October 2023, with a process that is inclusive of thematic, regional and political processes.

"We are targeting around 800 national and international participants to attend the second SCM. This meeting aims to form working groups, discuss work plans for the forum in each process, and follow up after the forum ends," said Endra.

The second SCM of WWF 2024 will be a venue for stakeholders participating in political, thematic and regional processes in the remaining 8 months, including ensuring that the forum produces concrete outputs and benefits for Indonesia as the host.

For your information, at the 9th World Water Forum in Senegal, Indonesia was appointed to host the 2024 World Water Forum, which is the largest international water forum in the world.

The 10th World Water Forum event will take place in Bali on 18-24 May 2024.
