Hipmi Reveals 5 Recommendations For Economic Improvement In The Marine And Fisheries Sector

JAKARTA - Head of Maritime Affairs, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Division of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (BPP Hipmi) Fathul Nugroho conveyed that five recommendations from the results of the XVIII Hipmi National Working Meeting (Rakernas), especially in the marine and fisheries sector.

"The first recommendation is that Hipmi encourages the government to implement a downstream policy of marine and fishery products to increase added value and export value so as not to lose to neighboring Vietnam," Fathul said in a written statement in Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 6.

This is because this year the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is targeting exports of fishery products to reach 7.66 billion US dollars or higher than the realization in 2022 of 6.4 billion US dollars for almost 1 million tons of fish. However, this figure is still below the export value of the seafood neighboring Vietnam which amounted to 11 billion US dollars in 2022.

Therefore, Fathul asked the government's side in the capital sector for MSME actors. Moreover, the president has targeted that this year's People's Business Credit (KUR) be IDR 460 trillion with only 6 percent interest spent.

"The second recommendation is the allocation of KUR in the marine and fisheries sector for HIPMI members on the MSME scale throughout Indonesia," he said.

For the third recommendation, his party encourages increased efficiency of the national logistics network. The instrument can be done through cooperation in port management and warehousing between PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) and Hipmi.

According to Fathul, the government must pay attention to beach and island reclamation activities. That way, marine products remain abundant and continue to be sustainable.

"Fifth, HIPMI encourages policies related to sustainable beach and island reclamation activities and pay attention to ecology to be given space by the central government because it has a positive impact on national economic growth and the creation of new jobs," he concluded.
