Minister Basuki Invites SIWI to Actively Participate in the 2024 Bali World Water Forum

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) invites the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) to take an active role in the largest forum in the field of Water Resources (SDA), the 10th World Water Forum which will be held in Bali, in 2024.

"The Indonesian government wants SIWI to be able to participate in the 10th World Water Forum. Not only as an ordinary participant, but to play an active role in working groups and as an exhibitor at Fairs and Expos," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono in a press release, Tuesday, August 22.

According to Basuki, SIWI's performance in supporting UNICEF's WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) program through capacity building programs and projects in the water and sanitation sector is very good and in line with Indonesia's needs.

"I think this fits our needs because by 2024 Indonesia will complete the SDG target of 100 percent access to clean water and 90 percent access to sanitation in 2030, including piped clean water services. So, SIWI can help with its expertise and experience," he said .

Basuki also invited SIWI to expand its representative offices to various regions, including Southeast Asia. Moreover, currently SIWI has representative offices in Aman-Jordan and Pretoria-South Africa.

"We hope that if you want to expand regional representation in Southeast Asia, SIWI can focus on the issue of climate change adaptation, so that it can be implemented with real programs and projects in surrounding countries," he said.

Meanwhile, SIWI Executive Director Karin Gardes said, SIWI has a Stockholm Water Prize program to award successful real practices in the field of water management.

"The program offered is expertise and governance in the field of water management. It focuses more on infrastructure and technology for handling water crises. Apart from that, water must be handled transparently and transboundary. SIWI also has a mechanism to connect cross-cutting issues, such as issues of pollution, social , and others," he said.
