JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is completing the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam in the National Capital City (IKN) of the Archipelago.

Head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force of the Ministry of PUPR, Danis Sumadilaga, said that the dam construction was almost 100 percent.

"The (Sepaku Semoi Dam) is almost 100 percent for water, even the Sepaku Semoi Dam in August will have an impact, maybe around October it was inaugurated," Danis told reporters, quoted Thursday, August 10.

Danis said that the water source for the State Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago came from the Sepaku Semoi Dam and took from the Sepaku River. According to the plan, the quality of the water produced can be drunk immediately.

"We are also from the Sepaku intake preparing a clean water treatment plant. Then, installing a 17-kilometer (km) pipe to ensure the availability of clean water, raw water. Now, if the intake is raw water, we will process it with a water treatment plant or IPA (water treatment plant), this with the quality it can be drunk immediately," he said.

He explained that the water can be safe to drink because it is processed in the water treatment plant first. Then, the pipe to distribute water also has a quality food grade so it is safe to consume.

"This, right, the water must be processed by water treatment installations, then pumped sent to IKN. The pipe has a layer in it, the name (layer) food grade. So, water passing through there is guaranteed not to be contaminated by pipes," said Danis.

Later, added Danis, the pipe will be coated with a layer of concrete and cement so that it guarantees the quality of the water. Once the delivery of drinking water enters the city, it will be channeled directly through pipes installed in the multi-utility tunnel or MUT.

As for the MUT, when there is a network that must be repaired or replaced, repair technicians just need to enter the MUT to make repairs.

This MUT infrastructure will also be controlled and supervised by a kind of control room, so that it can detect damage and leakage that occurs in the MUT.

"Later, everyone at IKN will get about 150 liters of water per person per day, we will calculate the assumption. So, with these two dams there is enough water availability with an estimated number of people until around 2035," he said.

Furthermore, Danis targets that the water from the Sepaku Semoi Dam and the Sepaku River Intake can be channeled throughout IKN, in 2024.

"Yes, hopefully (2024 has flowed). Now, right, we are installing the pipe earlier, then we are also installing the water treatment plant (work), preparations have started," he concluded.

For your information, the Sepaku Semoi Dam is located in Tengin Baru Village, Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, with a total area of 378 hectares (ha).
