The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to encourage the competitiveness of the automotive industry in Indonesia, one of which is by strategic efforts to create competent human resources (HR).

So far, the automotive industry is known to be one of the pillars of national economic growth.

The power of the national automotive industry, particularly four or more wheeled, is currently supported by 23 companies with a total capacity of 2.35 million units per year.

In addition, direct employment in the national automotive industry has reached 38 thousand people, as well as absorption of more than 1.5 million workers along the industry value chain, including in the small and medium industry (IKM) sector in the component sector.

"To provide competent Human Resources (HR) for the industrial sector, the Ministry of Industry is also present to contribute through vocational education units, from SMK, Community Academy, to Polytechnic. As for human resources in the automotive industry, there is an STMI Jakarta Polytechnic that focuses on the sector," said the Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) of the Ministry of Industry Masrokhan in a written statement received by VOI, Tuesday, June 27.

Masrokhan said that the STMI Jakarta Polytechnic has five study programs related to the automotive industry, namely the Automotive Industrial Engineering (TIO) Study program, the Automotive Industrial Information System (SIIO), the Polymer Chemical Engineering (TKP), the Automotive Business Administration (ABO), and Automotive Engineering Technology (TRO). To produce a competitive automotive industry HR, STMI Jakarta Polytechnic strengthens partnerships with related industries.

"We (BPSDMI) focus on encouraging the institutional transformation of the vocational education unit to be in line with the development of the industrial sector. In implementing this policy, the Jakarta STMI Polytechnic requires the role and cooperation of industries in the automotive sector," said Masrokhan.

Meanwhile, STMI Jakarta Polytechnic Director Mustofa said that this industry meeting activity aims to establish friendship, get feedback or reciprocity from the industry regarding the Industrial Work Practice (Prekerin) program that has or will run in each company.

"Cooperation and collaboration with the industrial world can be realized in the form of compiling curriculum that is in accordance with industrial needs, apprenticeship/Prakerin, placement of graduates, competency certification and program evaluation," he said.

In the period from January to April 2023, the STMI Jakarta Polytechnic has collaborated with 82 automotive companies and their supporters to place 253 Prakerin students in the Jabodetabek, Karawang and Bandung areas.

At this activity, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Jakarta STMI Polytechnic and PT Fuji Technica Indonesia, PT Asano Gear Indonesia, PT Akebono Brake Astra Indonesia, and the Inline Group.

"I express my appreciation and appreciation to the company's leaders, HR Division, and supervisors at the company. Hopefully, it will strengthen the partnership between the STMI Jakarta Polytechnic and industry to prepare competent and global competitive industrial workers," he added.
