JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) received an offer to build a fuel refinery in Kenya, East Africa.

This was revealed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

He explained that he had just finished a meeting with Pertamina and discussed the possibility of building the refinery in Kenya.

"So Pertamina was asked by Kenya to buy oil Refinery there," said Luhut, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, June 24.

Luhut added that if through the construction of this refinery, Pertamina will get oil from Kenya and it is certain that it can reduce the need for Indonesian oil imports, which is still quite large.

"There is an opportunity to bring its crude oil to Indonesia," added Luhut.

Regarding the potential for the construction of the refinery, Luhut admitted that he did not know the details of the refinery to be built.

"I don't know yet, we were still finalizing it, we are still meeting again if I'm not mistaken," Luhut added.

Previously, Luhut invited Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto to jointly increase more strategic economic cooperation between Indonesia and Kenya.

Luhut also expressed Indonesia's desire to be able to work closely with Africa for strategic issues such as energy transition, digital transformation, sustainable development, and industrialization.

He ensured that Indonesia was also ready to cooperate with Kenya in various fields, especially in the transition of renewable energy, development of green and smart ports, digitization of government, development of strategic infrastructure, and cooperation in the development of the palm oil and food industry.
