JAKARTA - The Indonesia National Air Carriers Association (INACA) encourages the government to optimize the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the country's aviation industry to produce clean energy so that it has an impact on the environment.

"Currently there are 451 flight fleets owned by the national logging industry and SAF is an important matter and a concern for all of us," said INACA Chairman Denon Prawiraatmadja quoting Antara, Thursday, May 25.

This was revealed by Denon who was accompanied by the Secretary General of INACA, Bayu Susanto while attending the SAF workshop organized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Bangkok from May 22 to May 25, 2023.

According to Denon, as the largest archipelagic country in Southeast Asia, Indonesia needs optimal air transportation, to support and improve the national economy.

He added that some in Asia have seriously implemented SAF or sustainable Aviation Fuel, such as in South Korea which changes laws in 2023 to enable the adoption of marine biological fuels by 2025 and SAF by 2026. Then in Japan it targets the use of SAF 10 percent by 2030, where this was announced by Japanese lawmakers in December 2021.

Not only that, said Denon, China is targeting 50 thousand tons of SAF use and currently SAF performance testing has been carried out on airworthiness certification, new path exploration for its development. Then in India, which is considering the use of SAF in its aviation sector.

"And we admit that Indonesia itself has prepared to implement SAF where it is planned that by 2025 we can use SAF as much as 5 percent. This is very good and we are ready to support it so that in 2045, our aviation industry can optimally use SAF," he said.

Denon also said that Asia will be the home for the largest producer of SAF, of course this is a market share for Indonesia to be able to provide SAF on its own land. And this is the key to making the continuity of national transportation the winner of the domestic industry.

"To realize this, collaboration with all parties is needed between the state-owned government and the private sector in order to provide environmentally friendly and sustainable fuels," he said.

This can make the aviation industry healthy, and produce clean energy supported by good ecosystems such as electric vehicles and green airports as well as all ecosystems that support the national aviation ecosystem and industry.
