JAKARTA - The number of remittances for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from Malaysia during Ramadan 2023 through BRIfast Remittance reached Rp1 trillion, said BRI Malaysia Country Manager, Bagus L Maestoso.

This number increased 125 percent compared to the previous month and grew by 107 percent year-on-year (yoy).

Bagus stated that the trend of increasing transaction volume began from the beginning of fasting and continued to increase to D-2 Eid al-Fitr, along with the high desire of PMIs to send money to their hometowns to prepare for Eid their families.

The safety and smoothness of the money transfer process is the main consideration of PMIs in Malaysia.

Bank BRI di Malaysia bekerja sama dengan mitra-mitra resmi yang menyediakan layanan pengiriman uang yang relih dan real time, jadi PMI tidak perlu khawatir, uangnya pasti sampai dengan cepat," kata dia.

Bagus estimates that the transaction of remittances from Malaysia to Indonesia will continue to increase along with the better socio-economic conditions in Malaysia and an increase in the minimum wage in 2022.

Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia, such as Ila (42 years), feel the need to increase during the fasting month and before Eid.

Every month I send money to Indonesia, usually IDR 3 million for the needs of children and families in the village. If you want Eid, you send more than IDR 7 million to buy clothes, cakes and food," said Ila, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, April 29.
