The FamilyMart, FamiCafe and Fami Super outlets are the first food and beverage providers in Indonesia to have a Halal Certificate from the Halal Product Guarantee Administration Agency (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. These three brands implement the Halal Product Guarantee System very well (Excellence).

Head of Operation FamilyMart Tulus Prasetio said this halal certificate is proof that the products produced by FamilyMart always use raw materials that are truly halal. "So that consumer comfort and security are always maintained," Tulus said in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 12.

Tulus emphasized that there is no difference between the manufacturing process and raw materials, before or after pocketing a halal certificate. Instead, the acquisition of this halal certificate confirms that the fast food ready to eat products produced by FamilyMart come from suppliers who have halal certificates, use quality raw materials, and hygienics.

"After receiving this halal certification, we became increasingly selective in choosing our raw material suppliers. We are also more aware of ensuring halal guarantees for each product," said Tulus.

In fact, FamilyMart has pocketed a halal certificate since March 16, 2023, with the number ID0041000103300223. PT Fajar Mitra Indah (part of Wings Group) as the sole license holder (master franchise) FamilyMart, now has 254 outlets.

"Alhamdulillah, based on document checking and audit results on the implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee System carried out by LPPOM MUI, we managed to achieve the Very Good (Excellence) category. The Halal Certificates that we obtained apply to all outlets of FamilyMart, FamiCafe, and Fami Super (part of FamilyMart)," said Tulus.

Halal certificates include products produced in shops and the kitchen center of FamilyMart and partner companies that supply raw materials to FamilyMart. These products include Beverages, Crispy Chicken, xioms, Siomay, Korean Sausage, Sasis Guling-guling, FamiIce, Fami Twist, Pastry, Roti Brioche, and other ready-to-eat products.

"FamilyMart considers this certification important to guarantee and ensure to the public that the products produced by FamilyMart are really halal for consumption. Thus, it creates a sense of security for FamilyMart consumers, especially for Muslim consumers," said Tulus.

Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Administration Agency (BPJPH) Dr H Muhammad Aqil Irham appreciates the acquisition of the Halal FamilyMart certificate. Halal certificates, said Aqil Irham, will have a positive impact and added value to business actors. Because, halal certificates can provide guarantees.

"With the guarantee of halal products, the company can win people's trust," he said.

According to him, this certification made FamilyMart participate in encouraging the growth of the halal industry ecosystem in Indonesia, as mandated by Law No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee. In addition, it is also to succeed in the government's program which requires halal certification on October 17, 2024, especially for food, beverage products, slaughter and slaughter services, raw materials, food additional materials, and auxiliary materials for food and beverage products.

Aqil Irham added that it is not only large companies that require halal certificates. Small and medium scale business actors (MSMEs) are also required to have a halal label. For this reason, BPJPH has opened a Free Halal Certification (Sehati) program starting in early 2023.

"We open 1 million free halal certification quotas with a statement mechanism for business actors (self declare). I hope all business actors can take advantage of the 2023 Sehati program," said Aqil Irham.

Halal FamilyMart, FamiCafe and Fami Super certification involves three parties, namely BPJPH, LPPOM MUI as halal examination institutions (LPH), and MUI. BPJPH carries out the implementation of halal product guarantees. LPPOM MUI conducts document adequacy checks, audit schedulement, audits, audit audit meetings, issuance of memorandum audits, delivery of audit report results at the MUI Fatwa Commission meeting.

President Director of the Institute for the Study of Food, Medicine, and Cosmetics of the Indonesian Ulema Council (LPPOM MUI) Muti Arintawati said that halal certificates are a form of responsibility for Muslim consumers.

"Before registering for halal certification, the company must have implemented a Halal Product Guarantee System (SJPH) in accordance with government regulations," he said.

There are 5 criteria for the Halal Product Guarantee System (SJPH), namely Commitment and Responsibility, Materials, Halal Product Process, Products, and Monitoring and Evaluation.

If all these conditions have passed, the LPPOM auditor will conduct an audit to verify the products and other requirements. The audit results will be brought to the MUI Fatwa Commission for Halal Fatwa and Halal Determination is issued. Then, the Halal Decree is submitted to the BPJPH for the issuance of the Halal Certificate.
