JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) together with all Toll Road Business Entities (BUJT) have provided Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) at 14 toll road rest area points.
This is done to anticipate the increasing number of people using electric vehicles during the 2023 Eid homecoming.
A spokesman for the Ministry of PUPR Endra S Atmawidjaja said, during this 2023 Eid homecoming, BUJTs together with related partners have prepared SPKLU at 14 toll road rest area points.
"This charging point or SPKLU is part of the PUPR Ministry's efforts to encourage the formation of a better energy-efficient and environmentally friendly car ecosystem," said Endra in a written statement, Wednesday, April 12.
Endra said that currently there are 14 SPKLU units available and spread over a number of toll roads, such as the Jakarta-Merak toll road section in the KM 13A rest area, the Trans Java toll road section (Jakarta-Cikampek-Semarang-Solo-Surabaya to Probolinggo) which is located in rest area KM 6B, KM 208B, KM 389B, KM 456B, KM 519B, KM 616B, KM 207A, KM 379A, KM 519A, KM 626A, and rest area KM 695A.
Meanwhile, the other two SPLKU points are on the Jakarta-Bogor-Ciawi (Jagorawi) toll road at the KM 10A rest area towards Bogor and the KM 21B rest area towards Jakarta.
"Of course, SPKLU is also available in big cities on the island of Java which are destinations for travelers. Thus, it is hoped that travelers can feel safer, more comfortable, and calm driving electric cars," said Endra.
According to Endra, the provision of SPKLU was carried out considering the significant increase in the number of electric cars in Indonesia. Based on a report from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), sales of electric cars in Indonesia totaled 15,437 units throughout 2022.
"The number shot up 383.46 percent compared to the previous year which was only 3,193 units," he added.
