Great Potential, Government Encourages An Inclusive Digital Economy Ecosystem

JAKARTA - The government is said to continue to encourage the optimization of digital transformation which is able to become an enabler for the creation of input efficiency to support high productivity in various economic and business sectors.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said this was motivated by the condition that last year it was around 40 percent or 77 billion US dollars from the total value of ASEAN digital economy transactions originating from Indonesia.

In the future, Indonesia's digital economy's potential and opportunities will be wide open. Moreover, Indonesia has the 4th largest population in the world, most of which are in productive age (demographic bonus), and our internet penetration rate reaches 76.8 percent," he said as quoted from the official website today, Thursday, April 6.

According to Airlangga, the government is now continuing to encourage inclusiveness of the digital economy by implementing six strategies.

First, increasing accessibility through the development of digital facilities and infrastructure in order to reduce the digital gap in society.

Second, improving digital skills through training and education programs in the field of digital technology, such as the Pre-Employment Card Program and Digital Talent Scholarship.

"Third, the government encourages entrepreneurship and the transformation of MSMEs through facilitation and strengthening the electronic trading ecosystem. This will encourage MSMEs to advance to class and create a healthy business climate," he said.

Fourth, expand access to digital financial services through regulations and policies that can trigger the birth of various innovations that are able to optimally protect the public using fintech services and their ecosystems.

Fifth, guaranteeing the security and privacy of public data through Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection.

"The law is a legal umbrella that encourages reform of the practice of processing personal data, both in the public and private sectors, as an effort to increase industry standards," he stressed.

And the sixth is the strengthening of cooperation between the government and the private sector, for example through partnerships with technology companies in developing innovative solutions that will strengthen Indonesia's digital economy ecosystem.

"All these strategies are expected to create an inclusive, agile, and sustainable digital economy ecosystem, and can ensure that all Indonesian people can take advantage of the growth of the digital economy," he said.

For information, in 2025 the value of ASEAN digital transactions is predicted to double to USD 130 billion and will continue to increase to USD 360 billion by 2030. Indonesia as the largest country will certainly contribute the highest to this figure.
