Pertamina Baru Forms HSSE Directorate After Plumpang Incident, Minister Of Energy And Mineral Resources Opens Voice

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) plans to form a new directorate to support the work safety and health system or Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE).

Responding to this, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif said, actually every Pertamina business unit already has people swimming to handle HSSE.

"Actually, it's already in the units, but now it needs to be special so that he focuses," Arifin told the media quoted on Tuesday, March 21.

Arifin added, regarding the formation of this new directorate, it has been discussed with the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir, which oversees Pertamina and has agreed to form it.

"I have spoken with Mr. Erick. The Minister also strongly agrees," added Arifin.

According to him, the establishment of the HSSE Directorate is an obligation for a company that has a business with hazardous materials.

"It must be. Mandatory. Because for one corporation whose business is Hazard material, of course, that standard must be owned and it must be unified and unified in one monitoring system including standard operating procedures that are uniform and have been monitored, and it is deemed necessary to have this directorate," concluded Arifin.

Previously in a Hearing Meeting with Commission VII DPR RI, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati revealed that she would form a new directorate, namely the HSSE Directorate, after the fire incident at the Plumpang Fuel Depot, North Jakarta.

"The Minister of SOEs and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources have a plan and asked us to form a special directorate where it covers HSSE, risk management and also ESG. This is now what we designed as a form of accountability and we are very concerned about this," said Nicke.
