The Ministry Of Industry Claims That It Has Long Been Proposed To Import Used Shoes In The Prohibition Rules

Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Dody Widodo admitted that his party had long proposed that used shoes be included in the limited prohibition rule (laltas) related to goods prohibited from imports and exports.

This is related to the case of illegal imports of used shoes from Singapore, which recently occurred.

Dody said that his party had already thought about the risk of importing used shoes that could disrupt domestic industrial activities.

"We have thought about it long ago, we have proposed it," said Dody to reporters when met at the Indonesia Leading Economic Forum 2023, in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 14.

According to Dody, the problem of imported shoes flooding the domestic market is not a product that enters through legal import routes, but through illegal routes by smuggling into rat ports.

Thus, he said, entering used shoes into regulations related to goods prohibited from importing and exporting or limited prohibition (laltas) is not the right solution. This is because the rampant sale of imported footwear has already reached the domestic market.

"However, the problem is that the shoes are all non-official shoes, all goods are smuggled," he said.

For your information, the rules regarding the prohibition of importing used goods are regulated through the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 40 of 2022 concerning Amendments to the Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 18 of 2021 concerning Prohibited Exports and Goods Prohibited from Imports.

In the regulation, used clothes and other used goods are included in goods that are prohibited from importing with tariff posts or HS 6309.00.00 with descriptions of used clothes and other used goods and listed in section IV types of used bags, used sacks, and used clothes.
