A Total Of 27.32 Million People Are Predicted To Go Home For Eid Using Private Cars

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation predicts that out of a total of 123.8 million people will move during the Lebaran 2023 homecoming period, 27.32 million people will use private cars.

The prediction of the movement of the community is the result of a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation through the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT).

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya said, at the moment of this year's Eid homecoming, the mode of transportation used by the community was dominated by land transportation.

"Homecoming with a private car is 22.07 percent or 27.32 million people. Then, motorbikes are 20.3 percent or 25.13 million people," he told reporters, Tuesday, March 7.

Then, continued Budi, at the moment of Lebaran 2023, many people also chose public transportation. People who go home with buses are predicted to be 18.39 percent or 22.77 million people.

"Then, intercity trains 11.69 percent or 14.47 million people and rental cars 7.7 percent or 9.53 million people," he explained.

Homecoming Areas And Destinations

Based on the survey results, the origin of the movement of the people is predicted to be dominated by Java, which is 62.5 percent or 77.3 million people.

Budi said, there are five regions from which travelers came, namely, first, East Java 17.1 percent or as many as 21.2 million people.

Second, Central Java 15.1 percent or as many as 18.7 million people.

"Jabodetabek 14.8 percent or 18, 3 million people. Then, West Java 12.1 percent or 14.9 million people, and North Sumatra 3.6 percent or 4.4 million people," he said.

Meanwhile, the five highest destinations for community travel are, Central Java 26.45 percent or 32.75 million people.

Then East Java 19.87 percent or 24.6 million people, West Java 16.73 percent or 20.72 million people.

Furthermore, Jabodetabek is predicted to be 6.52 percent or 8.07 million people and Yogyakarta 4.78 percent or 5.9 million people.

Budi said the peak of the homecoming flow is expected to occur on D-1 or Friday, April 21, 2023, where it is predicted that there will be a movement of 14.3 percent or 17.7 million people.

"The increase in travel on the homecoming flow is predicted to start to increase from D-3 or Wednesday 19 April 2023," he said.

For the peak of backflow, said Budi, it is estimated that it will occur on D+2 or Tuesday, April 25, 2023, and it is predicted that the movement will still be quite high until D+3 or Wednesday, April 26, 2023.
