Prevent Flash Floods Again, The Ministry Of PUPR Will Bangun Sabo Dam In North Luwu, South Sulawesi

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) will build a Sabo Dam on the Radda River to prevent the 2020 flash flood disaster in North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi).

Director of Rivers and Beach of the Directorate General of Water Resources Bob Arthur Lombgia, Ministry of PUPR, said that his party would soon build a Sabo Dam as the controller of the sediment in the Radda River.

"This infrastructure was built to maintain soil surface erosion, stabilize river bases and cliffs, reduce flood speed, and accommodate sediment flow," said Bob Arthur in his official statement, Monday, February 20.

"The location is in Meli Village, Baebunta District with a capacity of 7,043 cubic meters and has entered the auction stage," he added.

It is known that the 2020 flood was caused by overflowing water from the Masamba River, Radda River, and Rongkong River due to very high rainfall upstream of the river.

When there was a flash flood in 2020, the Pompengan Jeneberang River Basin Center (BBWS) carried out emergency handling activities in three rivers, namely the Radda River (Geobox 1.88 km, normalization 0.2 KM, Riprap 0.245 KM).

Then, in Sungai Masamba (Geobox 3.35 KM, Dumancing Stone 0.65 km, normalization 0.3 KM), Sungai Rongkong (Geobox 1.5 KM, normalization 1.2 KM), and Intake 60 liters of raw water per second with a pipeline length of 0.76 KM.

Furthermore, in 2021, there will also be permanent flood control handling in the Masamba River (Tanggul and rock support along 2.1 KM), the Radda River (Occupation of 1.5 KM embankment), the Rongkong River (tanggu 1.2 KM), and raw water networks with 4.59 KM pipes.

In 2022, permanent flood control construction will be carried out in the Masamba River (2 KM cliff embankment and support) and the Rongkong River (2.2 KM).
