JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) through the Directorate General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) held a facilitation facility for the implementation and certification of Hazard Critical Control Point (HACCP) for the food Small and Medium Industries (IKM) to be able to break down the export market.

"We are providing facilitation assistance in the application and certification of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) for food IKMs, so that they can help SMEs meet one of the export requirements, so that food IKM players will be more confident in expanding their market," said the Director General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry Reni Yanita in Jakarta, Monday, February 13.

According to Reni, food safety, quality, and nutrition standards need to be implemented by food IKM players so that the food products produced can be marketed according to the quality needed by buyers, not only for domestic consumers, but also for the export market.

Reni assessed that there are still many food IKMs that do not meet the requirements for sanitation production standards in all food production chain activities, both in the form of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Food Production Practices (CPOB), and HACCP which are International Standards for Food Safety Systems.

"This can be seen from buildings and production facilities that are less supportive, sanitation and lack of employee hygiene, equipment machinery that are not in accordance with the requirements, poor production supervision, and inconsistent final product specifications," he said.

As one of the basic human needs, said Reni, food safety is a mandatory requirement for food producers. "In fact, food SMEs which include food and beverage producers have the largest portion of the total number of IKM sectors, which is 1.68 million business units or 38.72 percent of the total IKM business units in Indonesia," he explained.

Reni said, based on Government Regulation Number 86 of 2019 concerning Security, Quality and Nutrition of Food, everyone responsible for organizing food chain activities which include production, storage, transportation, and food circulation, must meet sanitation requirements in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations.

Furthermore, the fulfillment of sanitation requirements in all food chain activities is carried out by implementing good guidelines.

"HACCP is a guideline or procedure that regulates companies or producers to produce food to be safe, quality and suitable for consumption. With the procedures to control the quality of food production, the company's products will be more developed and can be trusted by consumers," said Reni.

Meanwhile, IKM Food, Furniture and Building Materials Directorate General of IKMA Yedi Sabaryadi said his party had facilitated 18 IKM in districts/cities to participate in food safety assistance, preparation, and application of standard hygiene and net production in accordance with the HACCP requirements. In addition, there are 11 IKMs that receive HACCP facilitation for beverage products.

"In this assistance, there is a consultation visit program with experts, assistance in house training, implementation of HACCP net production standards, audit and evaluation of production commitments including document repair, external audits by certification institutions, to the issuance of HACCP certificates," he said.

Assistance is carried out for nine months from March to November 2022. After that, IKM which meets all standards is entitled to a HACCP certificate.

"For this year, we will again provide HACCP facilitation for IKM Food is drained. By having a HACCP certificate, food IKM players can provide guarantees to consumers regarding the quality of the products produced. The confidence of food IKM players is also increasing, especially to penetrate the global market," he concluded.
