The House Of Representatives On The Policy Value Of Electric Vehicle Subsidies Needs Re-Assessment

Member of Commission VII DPR RI Abdul Kadir Karding assessed that the policy of subsidies for motorcycles and electric cars is not the right step in an effort to encourage the transition of energy to new energy and renewable energy (EBET).

According to him, the policy only spent a lot of budget. Meanwhile, the resulting impact tends to be unfavorable.

In my opinion, this policy is once again a good policy, but the fact is that it damages many things. This subsidy is an open subsidy, wants anyone who buys a motorbike and an affected car (can get) subsidies. So there is no poor, no less able, everyone can get it," said Karding at Commission VII's Hearing Meeting (RDP) with the President Director of PT PLN in the Commission VII Meeting Room quoted on Thursday, February 9.

"What does that mean? cars in Jakarta (we take the example of Jakarta) will increase in traffic jams. Because by buying a new car, it doesn't reduce old cars, because it's not conversion or not replacement, so the emission smoke will still exist," he continued.

With this policy, continued Abdul, a lot of state money was wasted because the government would provide electricity motor subsidies of Rp. 7 million and electric cars of Rp. 80 million.

"If one Indonesian buys one million electric cars with a subsidy of Rp. 80 million, how many subsidies are issued by the state. So that the car increases, and the roads are even more congested," he said.

He said, if the policy of subsidies for motorcycles and electric cars is one of the efforts to encourage the energy transition to EBET, it is a policy that is very hasty and not attractive.

It is feared that there will be an explosion in the number of motorcycles and cars in Indonesia, without reducing the pollution that exists.

Therefore, he hopes, the policy needs to be reviewed.

He also encouraged PLN to oversee the process of transitioning energy to EBET in accordance with the EBET Law.

PLN was asked to create a concrete picture and concrete steps in this EBET escort process.

"I encourage the escort of the new energy transition and renewable energy. One of the points is the Law on EBET (new energy and renewable energy), there are many things in it that I think in the future will become a vehicle to encourage our efforts to make an energy transition. PLN has tried to encourage it, but I want a more concrete picture of PLN's steps in the context of this new renewable energy issue," he concluded.
