JAKARTA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa ensured that natural gas production in the local province will increase within the next five years.

"Based on data from the Jabanusa Oil and Gas SKK, there are several gas projects that will be on stream and increase production over the next five years," Khofifah said in a written statement. quoted from Antara, Thursday, February 9.

The gas projects in question include JBT - PEPC projects with a capacity of 192 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), MDA/MDH and MAC - HCML (120 and 50 MMSCFD), Blue Whale - Medco (30 MMSCFD), RBG - TIS Petroleum (15 MMSCFD), Lengo - Kris Energy (70 MMSCFD), ENC- EML (30 MMSCFD) and Bukit Panjang - PCK2L (50 MMSCFD).

"We need the central government's helping hand to prepare a new grand design for the fulfillment of oil and gas infrastructure in East Java. It is hoped that this will be in line with the master plan for the development of industrial estates in the four existing industrial areas, as well as those that will be developed at three points, namely Nganjuk, Madiun and Ngawi regencies," he said.

Khofifah emphasized that since 2019-2022, the construction of a household gas network (Jargas) in East Java has advanced compared to other provinces. It is recorded that approximately 180,650 house connections spread across 11 regencies/cities have been installed.

"However, equal distribution of energy access needs to be increased. Because so far the construction of Jargas has not been prioritized for oil and gas-producing areas, such as the Madura Islands, which have great natural gas potential," he said.

Furthermore, Khofifah appreciated the Jabanusa Oil and Gas SKK and Pertamina EP Cepu (PEPC) and Husky CNOOC Madura Ltd (HCML) with the "on stream" of the Jambaran Tiung Biru field by PEPC on September 20, 2022 and MDH MD by HCML on October 23, 2022.

The two national strategic projects were inaugurated by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin in Surabaya this Wednesday morning.

"We hope that these two gas field projects can increase the reliability of supplies in East Java and Central Java. At the same time, they can support the economic growth ecosystem in more advanced and independent areas," said Khofifah.
