JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements has developed a Domestic-Centralized Waste Management System (SPALD-T) in Palembang, South Sumatra.

The construction of the Palembang City SPALD-T is part of the Palembang City Sewerage Project (PCSP) program which is carried out through funding collaboration between the Australian Government, the Ministry of PUPR, the South Sumatra Provincial Government, and the Palembang City Government.

Director General of Human Settlements at the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti said the PCSP program is expected to bring good benefits for handling sanitation for the people of South Sumatra, especially the city of Palembang.

"This idea has been made for a long time, I hope that what we have planned can be beneficial for the people of Palembang and South Sumatra, so that they live in good health and there is no stunting. Hopefully this year we can immediately operate and be ready to be inaugurated," Diana said in a written statement, Wednesday, February 8.

The domestic wastewater treatment installation (IPALD) built through this PCSP activity is located in Sei Selayur, Kalidoni District, with a land area of 5.9 hectares. The IPALD was built in stages with a total capacity of 20,300 m3/day.

"It is hoped that this waste treatment plant can provide benefits up to 21,700 Home Connections (SR)," said Diana.

The scope of work of the Directorate General of Human Settlements itself consists of a B1-Pressurized pipe A (President Transmission) package that has finished its work.

Then, the main pipeline and retiulation (sub catchment 2) B2 A-line packages, as well as the main pipe B-line B-packet and retiulation (sub catchment 4) which are targeted for completion in June 2023.

This IPALD development adopts Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR) technology, Biological remains Filter (BTF), and Nitrifying Filter (NTF).
