PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) will take firm action against contractors who neglect to implement Work Safety and Health (K3) related to Derison Siregar (23), an oil worker who died in an oil well in West Minas Village, Siak Regency, Riau.

"If non-compliance is found in the implementation of work, it will have consequences in the form of firm action up to black sanctions from the list of partners," said PHR President Director Jaffee A Suardin in his statement, quoted from Antara, Monday, January 23.

Jaffee A Suardin said PT PHR took work accidents seriously and carried out the investigation process with stakeholders, such as SKK Migas Sumbagut, Directorate General of Oil and Gas ESDM, Riau Manpower Office, and Riau Provincial Police.

He said all parties immediately went to the field to monitor, thoroughly investigate, and ensure that workers' safety aspects were the top priority in carrying out operations.

"PHR asks all contractors/work partners to display quality performance and carry out operational activities by paying attention, prioritizing, implementing K3 carefully, and continuously," he said.

PHR, he said, always strives for work safety and will continue to make the main priority in operations in the Rokan WK.

PT PHR is a subsidiary of Pertamina which is engaged in the upstream oil and gas business under PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) "Subholding Upstream". PHR was established on December 20, 2018.

Pertamina has received the mandate of the Indonesian Government to manage the Rokan Working Area since August 9, 2021. Pertamina has assigned PHR to carry out the transfer process from the previous operator.

The transition process is safe, smooth, and reliable. PHR continues the management of the Rokan WK for 20 years from August 9, 2021 to August 8, 2041. The area of operation of the Rokan WK covering an area of about 6,200 km2 is located in 7 districts/cities in Riau Province.

There are 80 active fields with 11,300 wells and 35 collector stations ("gathering stations"). WK Rokan produces a quarter of national crude oil or a third of Pertamina's production. In addition to producing oil and gas for the country, PHR manages social and environmental responsibility programs with a focus on education, health, community economy, and the environment.
