SEZ Sanur Integrated Health And Tourism Sectors, Ready To Be A Medical Tourism Center In Southeast Asia

Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir revealed that the development of the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) which integrates the health sector with tourism aims to provide inclusive health services, digital-based economic transformation, and a transition to sustainable energy.

According to Erick, Bali Island has great potential to become a medical tourism center in Southeast Asia so that it has a broad impact on improving the economy of local communities.

"The Sanur Bali area was chosen not only by historical and legacy factors from our first President, Soekarno, but also by reinforcing his initial idea. With this Health SEZ, we take advantage of the beauty of Bali to serve patients with world-class health services. This further affects Sanur as an international health tourism," Erick said in an official statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, January 16.

Erick Thohir accompanied the former 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarno Putri while visiting the SEZ of Sanur, Bali, Monday. The Sanur area, which was built based on the tourism vision initiated by the first President Soekarno to advance Indonesia on the international tourism stage, is being transformed by the Ministry of SOEs to become a comprehensive tourist destination that highlights health tourism and tourism.

In the 41.26 hectare area, health facilities are being established in the form of international hospitals and clinics in collaboration with the largest hospital in the United States Mayo Clinic, revitalization of Hotel Bali Beach or Grand Inna Bali Beach (GIBB), convention center, ethnmedicinal botanic garden, and commercial center to accommodate MSMEs.

Hotel Bali Beach or GIBB as one of the renovated heritages at SEZ Sanur is a hotel designed by Bung Karno which was built in 1963 and completed in 1966.

In the development of the Sanur SEZ involving BUMN In Journey, Hotel Indonesia Natour (HIN), Nindya Karya, Indonesia Healthcare Corporation (IHC), and PP, the number of rooms in the hotel will be increased from 246 rooms to 274 rooms with a more modern building and room concept.

The transformation of the Sanur tourist area is Erick Thohir's second revitalization effort against Soekarno's legacy. Previously, the Minister of SOEs also turned the Sarinah Trade Center that Bung Karno built in 1962 into a collaboration place for creative economy actors as well as the center of national MSMEs.
