The sloping conditions after the COVID-19 pandemic turned out to have an impact on the tourism sector in Central Java. Tourist visits jumped dramatically from the set target.

Tourist visits in Central Java Province in 2022 reached 45,093,933 people. This figure far exceeds the target which is only set at 11,530,429 tourists. This year's achievement is equivalent to 291 percent of the targeted figure.

Head of Marketing Disporapar Central Java Setyo Irawan said, of this number, domestic tourists (wisnus) dominated. Meanwhile, foreign tourists (tourists) ranked second. Noted, the number of visiting tourists reached 44,949,504 people and 144,429 foreign tourists.

He said this number was the largest since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In 2020 and 2021, the average tourist arrivals are only around 22 million more, both foreign tourists and foreign tourists. Meanwhile, in 2019 tourist visits reached more than 58 million people.

"Compared to 2019 (before the pandemic) achievements in 2022 have not fully recovered, but compared to 2020 and 2021 (pandemic) this year's achievements have increased significantly," he said Thursday, January 12.

The increase in the number of tourists to Central Java cannot be separated from the condition of the spread of COVID-19 which has begun to subside. In addition, the decision to revoke PPKM by the President of the Republic of Indonesia and improve people's purchasing power.

Even though it has subsided, tourism actors in Central Java do not neglect the implementation of health protocols. It is noted that as many as 794 tourist businesses have been certified Cleanliness Health Safety Environment Sustainability (Cleanliness, Health, Security, and Environmental Sustainability) from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia. Meanwhile, 691 tourism businesses have implemented the PeduliLindung application.

In addition, tourism actors also organize tour packages, coordinate with the Transportation Agency, BPBD, Central Java Police Health Office and the Health Bureau. In addition, the socialization of the implementation of health procedures is still carried out.

Meanwhile, destinations that become magnets for tourists are Prambanan Temple in Klaten, Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Sunan Kalijaga Tomb in Demak, Jatimalang Beach in Purworejo, Marina Beach in Semarang, and Kota Lama.

"By 2023 we are targeting the number of tourist visits as many as 21,445,344 people. We are focusing on targets for foreign tourists visiting," he explained.

However, his party did not necessarily leave the promotion of tourist destinations to travelers from abroad. This year, promotion strategies will still be intensified, both through activities, advertisements, promotion of sales through electronic media, travel mart, digital marketing and social media.

"For the promotion of Central Java, we are targeting countries in Asia, especially Malaysia, Singapore, China and India," concluded Setyo.
