JAKARTA - Independent breeders who are members of the National Task Force Breeder Community (KPUN) held a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Office. The breeders have complained about the price of chickens living in cages that have fallen since the 2022 Christmas holiday.

KPUN chairman Alvino Antonio said independent breeders throughout Indonesia had suffered a loss of IDR 3.2 trillion during 2022. This value is an accumulation of the losses of national independent breeders.

Alvino explained that the loss was caused by the rising feed price of farmers but the selling price at traders fell. According to Alvino, the price of chickens lives in cages of IDR 15,000 per kilogram (kg) mainly in the Central Java region, which is the center of the broiler's chicken population.

Meanwhile, continued Alvino, the cost of producing farmers reaches IDR 20,500 per kg. This means that the capital is greater than the selling price.

"The price is below the HPP of IDR 19,500 to IDR 20,500 per kg," he told reporters at the Ministry of Trade's Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 10.

Meanwhile, continued Alvino, the price of karkas at the consumer level tends to be stable, namely Rp. 33,000 to Rp. 35,000 per kg. Meanwhile, feed prices tend to increase on the grounds that the price of corn increases.

But according to him today the price of corn fell below Rp. 5,000 per kg. "Since the beginning of this year, the DOC price has decreased, which is Rp. 2,000 to Rp. 3,000 per head. However, the feed price is still high, which is Rp. 8,300 to Rp. 8,800 per kg. Whereas last year the feed price was Rp. 7,500," he explained.

Alvino said this action would also be continued in front of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) office this afternoon. "That's why we will continue our demonstration to Badanas," he explained.

On this occasion, farmers also complained that large companies should not sell chickens to traditional markets. The large companies include PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk, Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, PT Malindo Feedmill Tbk, PT Cheil Jedang Indonesia, PT New Hope Indonesia, PT Farmsco Feed, and PT Gold Coin Indonesia.
